BACAU, ROMANIA

Project description
In 2012, Saint-Gobain completed work on the build of a positive energy house in Margineni near the city of Bacau in Romania.
We successfully applied Saint-Gobain's principles to build better, to create a wooden house that delivers optimum all-round comfort and a positive energy balance.
The project was named ‘Green Education Initiative of the Year 2011’ by the Romanian Green Building Council and subsequently won an Energy Efficiency award in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 competition.
Highlights and challenges
This residential project successfully connected the present to the past by applying, in new and different ways, a range of forms, textures and techniques found in traditional Romanian culture to create a comfortable and sustainable house.
