HOBOKEN,BELGIUM

Project description
In 2013 Saint-Gobain took on the challenge of managing a zero-energy renovation project in Belgium.
We successfully applied Saint-Gobain's principles to renovate and transform a typical 1960s Antwerp family house to create a ‘futuristic’ nearly zero-energy living space.
Throughout the project, the home owners and construction professionals were able to follow the entire process in real time and in real life via a specially created website.
Highlights and challenges
The aim of this particular renovation project was to demonstrate, in concrete terms, that an extremely energy-efficient and comfortable home is within everyone's reach – including the owners of existing properties.
The high level of insulation used in the renovated property has reduced energy consumption for heating to 53 kWh/m2 per year. Meanwhile, the energy required for sanitary hot water is generated by a heat pump linked to PV panels, reducing energy bills to as little as €60 per month.
