Mochamad Donny KOERNIAWAN

Dr. Eng. Mochamad Donny Koerniawan, ST, MT. was born in Yogyakarta (Indonesia) in 1970. He received his Ph.D. in Architecture in 2015 from The University of Kitakyushu, Japan, with expertise in smart city and building, sustainable/walkable city, and thermal comfort studies. He is a registered member of IAI (Indonesia Architect Institute) and IPLBI (Indonesia Built Environment Researcher Institute). In 2015 he joined the International Building Simulation Association (IBSA) Indonesia Chapter and served as vice president. Since 1997 he has been giving lectures in Bandung Institute of Technology’s Architecture Department where he also supervises research activities in the field of building science & technology.

Donny Koerniawan is (co-)author of 29 journal papers and 40 publications in both international and national conference proceedings. He has been involved in many collaborative research projects financed by various instances including the National Science Foundation (NSF) US, World Class University (WCU), Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, USAID, and Shimizu Corporation, Japan.

As a professional architect, Donny Koerniawan has been involved in various notable design projects, such as Design and Build system for 2018 Asian Games’ GBLA Stadium Zone 1, Master Plan of New City of Palembang, Master Plan and Building Design of Pertamina Research and Training Centre, Smart City Concept at Tanjung Selor and Pontianak City, and Master Plan of ITB Campus, Bekasi. Amongst his many achievements, Donny has been awarded 3rd place in IAI Semarang’s Golf Club Architecture Competition, Honorable Mention in IAI Cimahi’s “Taman Rakyat Cimahi'' Architecture Competition, and Best Paper in the ICEASENVAR, Petra Christian University, through his research on The Climate Sensitive Design in Hot-Humid Urban Design.
