Carlos Alberto Hernandez Correa Biography
Carlos is a Colombian architect with over 30 years experience and numerous award-winning projects. He studied architecture at the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and after graduating in 1984 he became a founding partner at Taller de la Ciudad. Award winning projects include Bulevar Niza in Bogota, Aduana de Barranquilla (Winner of the Bienal Colombiana 1994), and Parque Central Bavaria (Winner of the Bienal Colombiana 1996). Subsequently he became a founding partner of EHM, Esguerra, Hernández, Mazzanti. Award winning projects include Intercambiador Vial la Aguacatala Medellín (Winner of Asocreto), puentes peatonales de Bogotá (Winner Lápiz de Acero 2002), Parque Tercer Milenio (First prize winner for urban design and landscape Karl Brunner Bienal Colombiana 2008), and Museo del Caribe Barranquilla. Recent award-winning projects include Bienal Ibero Americana de Arquitectura Cádiz España 2012 and Premio Nacional de Arquitectura y Urbanismo Bienal Colombiana de Arquitectura Armenia 2012 for the project Palomino Sociedad en Construcción.
Carlos has also been in academia for the past 30 years. He was a Professor of Architecture of Universidad de los Andes from 1986 until 1998. From 1996 until present he has been the Director of the International Student Program(PEI) and a Professor of the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He has been invited as a vsiting professor of architecture and participate in workshops and seminars all over the world including Pratt Institute in New York, Instituto de Arquitectura de Venecia IUAV, Castellvechio Verona, II Workshop internazionale di architettura – Padua Italia, Escuela de Arquitectura internacional de Catalunya, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Católica Chile, Escuela de Arquitectura de la Suiza Italiana, Mendrisio.Current areas of research activity include the use of public space in vulnerable communities; urban planning ; and energy conservation.
