Ramy Bakir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Cairo, Egypt. He is also a partner/principal at the Egyptian based design firm; ASAS Design. Throughout his 15 years of practicing he has won 3 local and international design awards, and contributed to many design projects in Egypt and the Middle East Region by collaborating with several engineering consultancies in Egypt and abroad. Through his courses he explored with his students several modalities of designing, researching, building, and presenting creative and innovative design ideas. He has also conducted several empirical studies and has published several papers focusing on the situated design process within architectural practice and pedagogy exploring how both building and educational technologies influence the design process.
